The PDW-700 model captures spectacular HD images for the most demanding clients. It includes three new 2/3″ Power HAD FX CCD sensors and Full HD 1920 x 1080 native resolution. It also uses 14-bit A/D conversion and advanced digital signal processing to ensure exceptional image quality.

The PDW-700 model records at a speed of up to 50 Mb/s thanks to an MPEG-2 4:2:2P@HL compression technology called MPEG HD422.

The camcorder offers multi-format recording at 1080/50i, 1080/59.94i, 1080/25P, 1080/29.97P*, 720/50P* and 720/59.94P*. It also allows recording and playback of XDCAM HD* (4:2:0) at 35 Mb/s, 25 Mb/s and 18 Mb/s. It also enables recording and playback of standard definition MPEG IMX and DVCAM material.

The efficiency of its file-based workflow and its exceptional image quality make the XDCAM HD422 line even more attractive for applications such as TV series, documentaries and general entertainment programs, not to mention ENG applications, where the speed of operation is an essential requirement.

XDCAM HD products use high capacity non-linear optical discs for recording. The so-called Professional Disc, which Sony has developed specifically for professional recording applications.

The PFD50DLA and PFD23A are 12 cm rewritable optical discs. The PFD50DLA is a 50 GB capacity dual layer drive, while the PFD23A is a 23 GB capacity single layer drive. The large capacity of the PFD50DLA disc allows you to record up to approximately 95 minutes of material in high quality MPEG HD422.

Professional Disc media is extremely robust and reliable because it does not experience any mechanical contact during recording or playback and comes in a highly durable cartridge that protects it from dust.

Contactless recording and playback also make it ideal for long-term storage of audiovisual material. Traditional tape-based archiving systems must be rewound from time to time to remove any traces of magnetic dust, while with Professional Disc this process is not necessary.
