This unit is a digital videocassette recorder that uses 1/4-inch tapes. It incorporates digital compression technology so that the deterioration in picture and sound quality resulting from dubbing is significantly minimized compared to existing analog systems. Furthermore, given its compact 4U size and light weight, the unit can be easily transported or mounted in a 19-inch rack. Adjustments to the unit’s settings can be made interactively while viewing on-screen menus on the TV monitor, and editing functions include montage and insert editing.
Compact size and light weight
This is a 4U-sized digital VTR. It can be easily mounted in a 19-inch rack using the optional rackmount adapters (AJ-MA34HP).
Up to 123 minutes of recording.
Two sizes of cassette tapes can be used with this unit: the newsgathering cassette (max. 63 minutes) and the general-purpose cassette (max. 123 minutes). The tapes are 1/4 inch wide for a compact design.
Compatibility with consumer products.
Consumer cassette tapes recorded on commercially available digital cameras can be played back on this unit using the optional cassette adaptor (AJ-CS750P). Slow playback of consumer cassette tapes will not produce the smooth operation produced by slow playback of DVCPRO cassette tapes.
Digital slow motion
Digital slow motion technology originally developed by Panasonic enables silent image playback from speeds ranging from still images to approximately ± 1/2 × normal film speed. Some noise may occur when changing the slow motion speed.
Time codes
This unit comes with a built-in timecode generator (TCG)/timecode reader (TCR). In addition to internal timecode, timecode capabilities include external timecode input and VITC recording of the input signal.
Multifunction input/output interfaces
Component (Y, PB, PR) and composite input and output connectors are provided.
- Serial digital input/output:
Digital component interface that complies with the SMPTE 259M-C/272M serial digital signal standard is possible when using the optional component serial interface board (AJ-YA750P).
- AES/EBU audio input/output
Digital audio input and output connectors are provided.
- 9-pin remote control (RS-422A) / (RS232C)
In addition to the standard 9-pin serial connector (RS-422A), RS-232C and 25-pin parallel connectors are also available. The RS-422A connector allows another VTR to operate in parallel with the unit if a loop-through connection is used between the two units.
High-quality 2-channel digital audio
The sound can be edited separately for two channels, while channel mixing capabilities are also available. One channel is provided for the analog signal track.
Dial jog / shuttle
All playback is free of noise bars, with shift operations performed within the variable range set between –0.43 and 1 × normal tape speed. Transport operations can be performed at up to 60 times normal tape speed in both forward and reverse directions. Color images are sharp even during high-speed searches.
Automatic editing functions
In addition to insert assembly and editing, it can also be done.
Menu-guided setup
Setup adjustments, which are made before operating the unit, are made while viewing the on-screen menus on the unit’s display or on a TV monitor.
