The extension unit offers multi-camera support for the PXW-FS7, including support for Apple ProRes 422 encoding.
Although the XDCAM PXW-FS7 camera includes internal XAVC and MPEG-2 recording to XQD media, the optional XDCA-FS7 extension unit can be connected. The box can be attached via a multi connector so you don’t have to worry about cables. The extension unit offers additional I / O connectors such as time code and genlock for multi-camera operations or the ability to use common V-mount batteries. It also allows you to record RAW data to record 12-bit RAW material to the AXS-R5 (in combination with the HXR-IFR5) or a third-party RAW recorder via the FS RAW interface. The XDCA-FS7 will encode the video stream in the Apple ProRes 422 codec, which in turn will be recorded on the internal XQD media.
Apple ProRes 422 recording
The built-in Full HD ProRes encoding function allows recording in ProRes format on an XQD card in the camera.
* Firmware update, available early 2015.
Enables 12-bit RAW recording on external recorder
The XDCA-FS7 is required for the PXW-FS7 to record 12-bit RAW material to the AXS-R5 (in combination with the HXR-IFR5) or a third-party RAW recorder. RAW data is transmitted through the FS RAW interface of the extension unit and is fully compatible with the RAW data of the NEX-FS700.
Multi-camera setup
Allows time code and genlock for multi-camera operations or the ability to use common V-mount batteries.
