With TLS Rehousing, the original glass of this set of optics is made up of Vintage Leica R Summilux and Elmarit fixed lenses. Currently with the glass housed in solid, cinema-style housings, these Full Frame optics can cover FF 36mmx24mm.
With over 300 degrees of rotation, no backlash, and improved focusing, this TLS Rehousing lens set delivers the warm colors and smooth bokeh typical of original Leica glass that have made the Leica R so beloved. These Leica R lenses cover Full Frame 36mmx24mm, making the image circle cover almost all cameras and sensors. Most of Leica R TLS optics even cover the new Vista Vision sensor. A new focusing system has also been designed and, in addition, the “TLS housing” allows the placement of Matte Boxes and other accessories without affecting the movement of the focus.
The benefit of zero backlash and image shift give you dual focus scales that repeat in both directions and change with the cam drive system, giving you plenty of markings along the entire scale. An important point to take into account, due to the complete redesign of the optics, all the lenses have an improved close focus.
Aluminum alloy, stainless steel, brass and robust construction ensure a very long lifetime of the optics.
Since the DSLR revolution, Leica R optics have been the heyday of hybrid photo-cine lenses. Cinescope partnered with TLS to provide a suitable and robust housing for the Leica R. TLS had already done rehousings on the Kowa, Super Baltar, Canon K-35, and Cooke Speed Panchro optics, technology that could be carried over to the Leica R .
If you have already tried any optics with TLS Rehousing, you already know what to expect from the new Leica R. They use the same robust focusing system as the rest of their conversions.
The movements are smooth, consistent and well designed. The focus movement is very precise, with over 300 degrees of rotation, plus the Macro 60mm and 10mm offer 350 degree rotation.
Focus and aperture markings are clearly displayed on both sides of the lens. The front diameter is 110mm at all focal lengths.
To say that the “housings” are reminiscent of those of the Cooke S4i Optics would be an understatement. We could say that the TLS housing is like having a Leica crystal in a Cooke case.
