The PDW-680 XDCAM HD422 camcorder is a mid-range Professional Disc camcorder that includes many of the same features as the more advanced PDW-700 model. The PDW-680 camcorder has three 2\/3″ Exmor CMOS sensors for recording HD 1080\/50i or 1080\/60i images, or MPEG IMX and DVCAM SD, all as standard. Progressive mode is only available for playback.<\/p>\n

The PDW-680 camcorder is designed to greatly ease the transition from tape camcorder to computer-based operation, thereby improving workflow efficiency through MXF\/MPEG interoperability and metadata capabilities.<\/p>\n
XDCAM HD products use high-capacity non-linear optical discs for recording, so-called Professional Disc, which Sony has specifically developed for professional recording applications.<\/p>\n
The PFD50DLA and PFD23A are 12 cm rewritable optical discs. The PFD50DLA is a 50 GB capacity dual layer drive, while the PFD23A is a 23 GB capacity single layer drive. The large capacity of the PFD50DLA disc allows you to record up to approximately 95 minutes of material in high quality MPEG HD422.<\/p>\n
Professional Disc media is extremely robust and reliable because it does not experience any mechanical contact during recording or playback and comes in a highly durable cartridge that protects it from dust.<\/p>\n
Contactless recording and playback also make it ideal for long-term storage of audiovisual material.
